The album that really birthed my music journey was Solange’s compilation project True. The sound for me was not mainstream at all and it sounded similar to what I was doing as a writer creating poetry. I was super focused on odd structures of poetry rather than creating something that followed all the English writing rules. For me this was the first time I heard something so different sounding so good. That was a big eye opener that I can create whatever I want.
