COREY LAURY • EUREKA SEVEN OST
When I first started taking piano lessons at 8, I was introduced to a lot of different music. My stepdad is a DJ and my dad is a lover of music. I didn’t start composing music until I was 12, but I always had an ear for knowing what I liked. I never thought of putting sounds together until I saw a video of Mannie Fresh & Mystikal. I was always a fan of The Hot Boyz and the melodic, percussive heavy beats of Mannie Fresh. My dad showed me a video of Mannie Fresh and Mystikal listening to beats in a car. At the time, I didn’t understand what they were doing or why the video had over a million views, but my curiosity was there.
I feel like I always had an inherent ear for music and seeing Mannie Fresh’s process definitely drew me in, but the album I would say really brought it out is Sato Naoki’s Eureka seveN OST. Aside from Eureka seveN OST being my #1 Anime, the soundtrack is really beautiful. The moods vary from intense, romantic, to delicate, as you can tell the soundtrack does the job of pulling at one's emotions.
At the time before I dove into scoring, I was primarily a Hip Hop producer. However, no matter the genre, I knew that I wanted to make music that is emotional and makes people feel a wide array of moods. I end this to say, Peace In The Beats always.
